Low-Viscosity Nylon Bonding Improver – Low Diisocyanate Content – No Mandatory Diisocyanate Training under REACH
Plastisol hardener, often referred to as a nylon bonding improver, designed to improve the adhesion of plastisol inks to difficult-to-print materials such as polyester and nylon.
This hardener has a low viscosity and therefore reduces the viscosity of the ink slightly. This may affect the opacity of your print.
An important advantage of this hardener is its very low diisocyanate content. The product is below the 0.1% threshold and therefore the mandatory training requirement for professional or industrial use of diisocyanates does not apply.
Many conventional isocyanate hardeners and nylon bonding improvers do fall under this requirement and therefore carry the warning:
“From 24 August 2023, adequate training is required before industrial or professional use.”
Another application of this hardener is to reduce the drying temperature of plastisol inks. This can be useful, for example, when producing plastisol transfers.
Please note that after adding the hardener, the ink will gradually cure in the container. The pot life is approximately 6–8 hours when adding 10–15% hardener.
